SUMMARY La Nostalgie heureuse
READ Ì La Nostalgie heureuse « Tout ce ue l’on aime devient une fiction » Amélie Nothomb Amélie Nothomb est née à Kobé en 1967 Dès son p. Everything that one loves becomes a fiction Am lie Nothomb claims in this book Such a notion justifies her calling this un roman even though it seems a largely autobiographical account of her return to Japan in 2012 the country where she lived as a small child and then worked as a young adult the latter experience providing fodder for her best novel Stupeur et tremblement 1999 Still this is a relatively fast and enjoyable read Nothomb s descriptions of the Japanese cities of Kyoto and Tokyo are spot on and her portrayal of her reunions with her childhood nurse and her first serious boyfriend are alternatively moving and humorous in the typical Nothomb style which entails in part making fun of herself At the center of this short book is the idea that nostalgia in the Japanese tradition can be happy a forgiving and satisfying review of the past that has little to do with the sense of sadness that is so often carried by the French and English word
